Washington accused S&P management of a calculating error worth $2tn. Associated press, meanwhile, branded the decision of S&P to downgrade the US rating as a hasty decision based on erroneous forecasts. On Friday, Standard & Poor’s downgraded its rating of America’s national debt from the maximum AAA level to AA+. The forecast is negative. This means that the next 12 – 18 months may see a further downgrade with the US struggling to stay solvent.
